I don't know enough about Japanese history, but this intrigued me enough to look this lady up. Warrior/magician queen Himiko, a legendary character, apparently, possibly, was indeed real. Real enough to have a grave that may have been discovered. If you don't know who she was (and I didn't) check her out, she was awesome! I love finding out about history's forgotten great women.

Check your drawers and cabinets. Things end up in the darndest places. 15th century document found in bottom of filing cabinet in Canada.

Because I love to read, this fascinated me. Eight scripts we still can't read. They range from Etruscan (we can parse the letters, which are a form of ancient Greek but can't figure out what they are saying) to an Indus script, which we can't even parse out the letters but they are very lovely.  The accompanying photographs of examples are extremely beautiful.

Corruption in public office nothing new! Ancient Romans fudged expenses! Got caught! Scandal along Hadrian's Wall!

Temple of Isis uncovered in Florence.
Open to visitors in two years, they've already uncovered the spectator seating area and orchestra pit.

Sucked to be in Nelson's Navy.  Pretty fascinating (if slightly gory) medical details. The youth of the sailors is so touching to me, since my son is the same age, older even. Gives "live fast, die young" a whole new meaning.

Other things  you can find if they have interest: They think they know who was buried at Sutton Hoo (amazing burial, we saw the stuff at the BM in London); Joint Italian/Iranian group is going to restore Cyrus the Great's tomb (I think that's pretty awesome); Exploration of how Neanderthal's gave birth explains a lot of stuff about evolution; a bunch of ancient tombs uncovered in China.
